Odor pollution market space is expected to reach hundreds of billions of chemical agglomeration areas

A few days ago, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment released the "12369" environmental protection reports from 2020 to the present, which showed that this year, air pollution reports exceeded half of the total number of reports, and reports of odors and odors accounted for about half of the air-related reports.

According to the data, since the central environmental protection inspector in 2016, cases of odor and odor disturbing people have been common across the country, and it has become one of the key contents of environmental protection inspectors.

Odor pollution has a wide range of sources, involving both point sources such as petroleum refining, chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, rubber, papermaking, food processing, etc., as well as sewage rivers, sewage treatment plants, landfills, livestock and poultry breeding, catering oil fume and other lines , surface source, diffuse source. Among them, in areas where petrochemical and chemical industries are concentrated, 90% of environmental complaints come from odor problems.

Therefore, the management of odorous gases in industrial enterprises has attracted widespread attention.

Professionals pointed out that there are two main reasons for the formation of odor pollution in industrial parks, namely primary formation and secondary formation. To put it simply, it is the odor pollution caused by the diffusion, dripping and volatilization of the surface of the internal sewage treatment facilities of the raw and auxiliary materials in the process of transportation, production and storage; or after the raw and auxiliary materials diffuse into the air, and the air Through microbial decomposition, high temperature reaction, anaerobic fermentation, light irradiation, etc., other intermediate products with malodorous properties are formed between the substances in the medium.

In recent years, the relevant departments in my country have also paid attention to the high level of odor/odor reports.

The Law on the Prevention and Control of Air Pollution stipulates that "Enterprises, public institutions and other producers and operators that generate odorous gases in their production and business activities shall select sites scientifically, set up a reasonable protective distance, and install purification devices or take other measures to prevent the emission of odorous gases. ."

At the end of 2018, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued the "Standards for Discharge of Odor Pollutants (Draft for Comment)", which involved tightening the limits of eight pollutants and improving discharge and monitoring requirements.

In addition, the upgraded version of the "Technical Specifications for Environmental Monitoring of Odor Pollution" stipulates the entire process of odor pollution monitoring from ambient air and various odor pollution sources (including water areas).

In terms of treatment methods, activated carbon adsorption, biological filtration method, low temperature plasma method, plant liquid spray deodorization and UV photo-oxygen catalytic exhaust gas purification are the current methods of odor treatment in industrial enterprises.

Even so, in the governance of odorous gases, there are still problems such as the backward monitoring and analysis methods cited, the unfair principle of implementing different emission limits in different regions, and the urgent need to increase the number of pollutant projects.

On the other hand, the timeliness and uncertainty of odor emissions have made it difficult for environmental protection departments to obtain evidence and enforce laws. Therefore, it is urgent to establish a real-time, efficient, and rapid online monitoring system for odor gases. Hours of continuous monitoring.

Specific to the enterprise level, different odor control technologies have different scopes of application, and the removal effect is affected by factors such as the type of odor emission source, emission concentration, emission parameters, etc., so it needs to be further improved.

Under this circumstance, some experts have analyzed that with the gradual entry of air pollution prevention and control into subdivided fields, the market space in the fields of governance, monitoring and supervision caused by odor pollution is expected to reach the order of 100 billion.
